JF's is easy to miss, once you're in multilevel Del Mar Plaza. Located on a somewhat hidden north corner of the shopping center, the Japanese restaurant affords views of the ocean from its outside patio and of Oriental landscapes inside.

Decorative details aren't spared here. Reed mats line booth seating, each booth separated by thick bamboo columns. Bamboo screens separate the entry way from the rattan seating in the intimate dining room. Painted images of cherry blossoms and bamboo decorate walls, while hanging parasols brighten the extensive sushi bar.

Quiet lunches are easy to come by. Enjoy nigiri sushi (priced around $5), or tempura served on a tiny bamboo tray. Green iced tea is refreshing on a sunny day by the beach
